Thank you for sharing your story and bringing attention to this broken system. As a teacher for many years who specialized in working with at risk and emotionally disabled youth, and as a Group Home administrator, I have had many interactions with CPS. The social service system and Child Protective Services are completely overwhelmed and more often than not, valid complaints are deemed unsubstantiated. Without advocacy and enforcement to protect them, where else are abused children supposed to turn when the system designed for their protection fails them time and time again? Abuse is a vicious repetitive cycle and when parents and caretakers are not held responsible for their neglect and crimes against children, then in the end we are nurturing another generation of abuse to come making the problem even more more insurmountable than it originally was...
