I was laughing while reading this article because as an Uber driver in San Francisco during the construction of the tower, I was polling passengers and few could tell me what the company actually did, while many abhorred the new addition to our wonderful city skyline. One passenger even referred to it as “Benny’s giant boner erected on the San Francisco skyline.” From those who could tell me what the business of Salesforce was, I was able to determine that it was software that maximized sales. I imagined it was software that allowed for identification of specific characteristics of a marketplace in order to maximize advertising and product recognition. It also apparently streamlines communication with clients with a focus on productivity and sales.

Anyhow, as a driver, Dreamforce was always a big boon allowing us to work on surged fares for a few days and actually make money as opposed to treading water on the below market standard fares imposed upon us by the tech company headquartered down the street on Market from the Salesforce Tower. That company had streamlined the taxi industry for customers and then utilized exploitation of labor to take control over the market and drive legitimate businesses that paid workers fairly into bankruptcy. I wonder if they used any Salesforce software in their takeover?

Anyhow as a driver, from best I could tell from attendees, Dreamforce was a giant fucking party. I would cart several attendees from cannabis club to conference during the day, and at night was when the real party started. Attendees would be wandering around everywhere in Downtown SF shit-faced on their company dime. Many of the men could be found chatting it up with hookers patrolling the blocks around Union Square. We drivers had to be on the alert for potential puking passengers like on New Years Eve and the 4th of July because the parties seemed to be pretty intense. Every year, there would be a giant private concert at AT&T park with a phenomenal list of notable performers.

I had hoped that one day someone would bless me with their credentials while on their way to the airport leaving town so I could get a closer look, but it never happened. Alas, the true identity of Dreamforce and Salesforce still remains somewhat a mystery to me…
