A 6-year old’s thoughts about these crazy times

I am Zora. I am named after Zora Neale Hurston. She is a famous and important black woman writer. Maybe one day, I will be important like her. I am important now too. I have many dreams for when I am older. Right now, I am six. I hope my dreams come true.

I am not writing this by myself because I am six. My Daddy is helping me. Just because I can’t write all by myself doesn’t mean that I don’t have something important to say.

I am growing up in America at a time that is unlike any time before. My school was shut down in the middle of my Kindergarten year. It had been a wonderful year and I loved my teacher and classmates.

One day, my Daddy showed up to pick me up at school and he told me that school had been cancelled for a while. I was so sad and disappointed. Later, they cancelled the whole year. Our graduation ceremony was a car parade.

I had just started to make some closer friends when school shut down which was nice because I only moved to this area about a year ago. Now, all I can do is talk to my friends on the phone once in a while, or maybe do a video chat if I am lucky. It’s been so long since I…
